Often called “the best kept secret in Cumberland County” the Extension Master Gardeners℠ Volunteers of Cumberland County in partnership with the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Cumberland County Center staff, will host an “Open House” on August 5, 2023, at the N.C. Cooperative Extension, Cumberland County Center, located at 301 East Mountain Drive, Fayetteville, NC. The event will begin at 9:00 a.m. and end at 1:00 p.m.

Attendees will have an opportunity to learn all about the services and programs available to the public. Information will be available about the Cooperative Extension Better Living Series, the Extension Master Gardener program, 4-H, gardening, livestock, soil analysis, pollinators, pest and plant identification and much more!

Extension Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer questions and provide information. Attendees will receive a free plant (while supplies last).

The family-friendly event will have a free planting station for kids where they have an opportunity to learn how to plant seeds, water, and take home to watch it grow. They can also visit the 4-H table, where they can watercolor a sunflower picture with “paint” made with vegetable dyes.

The following Informational workshops will also be provided:

Pollination & Pollinator Management, Kenny Bailey, Extension agent – 10:00-10:45

Landscape Tree Maintenance, Allen West, Extension agent – 11:00-11:45

Backyard Chickens, Liz Joseph, Extension agent 12:00 noon-12:45 p.m.

All adults attending the event will be given a free ticket for an opportunity to win a door prize. Several local businesses and nurseries have generously donated multiple gift certificates to more than five local nurseries & gardens, a FREE Better Living Series Class, Autographed Gardening Book, and one night stay at a Bed and Breakfast!
