Sample collection is the critical first step in soil testing. The sample must represent the area, or results ill have little or no value. A soil sample must be taken at the right time and in the right way. The tools used, the area sampled, the depth and uniformity of the sample, the information provided and packaging all influence sample quality.
Soil samples are free until the end of November each year. Beginning in late November or early December there is a $4.00 peak season fee per sample through March 31. Pick up a soil sample kit from your local Cooperative Extension office.
