Nathan Kiger

Good Afternoon! My name is Nathan Kiger and I am your Stokes County Livestock and Forages Agent.

Stokes County is where I was born and raised and where my interest for agriculture developed. Between grandparents’ farms and several years of dairy farming in my teens, agriculture was always a prominent part of my life. After graduating from West Stokes High School in 2010, I attended NC State University to pursue a degree in Agricultural Sciences. After graduation, I began working in a soybean breeding program for a company in Eastern NC. While living “out East” I met my wife and slowly started making my transition back home.

In March of 2018, I packed up and left the East and moved to Cabarrus County where my career in N.C. Cooperative Extension began. I had been working in Cabarrus County as their Livestock and Field Crops agent for about a year and a half when the Stokes County Livestock position opened. Naturally, I jumped at the opportunity to move home and was fortunate enough to continue my career with N.C. Cooperative Extension in Stokes County on Dec. 1, 2019.

As a Livestock and Forages Agent, my job is to assist anyone with questions regarding agriculture and livestock. This role changes everyday, as no two farms are the same. Regardless of the farm or the question my goal is to help a producer’s farm become more efficient. I work directly with Stokes County livestock producers to create science-driven educational programs that provide new information or practical solutions that will help their operations solve problems, increase production, and progress forward. The educational programs are delivered in many ways, such as our N.C. Cooperative Extension of Stokes County website, newsletters, Stokes County Cattlemen’s Association meetings, field trials, and field days.

If you have any additional questions or would like to be a part of our Livestock and Forages Program, feel free to reach out and keep a check on our website for updates and programs!

Thank You!
