2016 Young Farmer of the Year
James Rollings “J.R.” Dail is the 2016 Cumberland County Farm Bureau Outstanding Young Farmer of the Year. Dail, a fifth-generation farmer in the Wade community, is the son of James and Wanda Dail. He farms cucumbers, tobacco, soybeans and wheat. Dail also helps his father and his brother, Zach Dail, run the family hardware store located on the farm.
Dail graduated from Cape Fear High School in 2004 and earned a bachelor’s degree from N.C. State University in 2008.
Dail’s father was the Outstanding Young Farmer for Cumberland County in 1992. His great-great grandfather, William R. Taylor, helped bring flue-cured tobacco to Cumberland County.
